Alcalá de Henares

As my time in Spain is wrapping up, I decided to think about the day trips out of Madrid that I still really wanted to do. One of them was to Alcalá de Henares. It's a town right outside of Madrid, but still in the Comunidad de Madrid so I could get there for free with my public transportation card. Willa had been there twice and really liked it. I didn't know exactly what day I wanted to go, but I knew that I had to do at least one trip for all of my last weekends here in Madrid. So I woke up Sunday, decided I wanted to go to Alcalá de Henares, and boom! That was it! I was off!'

^(University of Alcalá)
Alcalá de Henares is a little, cute university town. I swear, every building I saw had a university post on it -- even churches!

^(Lonja de La Magistral)
Cervantes, the famous Spanish writer, was born here. So many people come to Alcalá de Henares to see his birthplace. When I went, pretty much everything was closed because it was Sunday!

I spent the day walking around and checking out the town. I walked from one end to the other, spending about 3 hours there in total. I probably could have spent a little longer there, just strolling around, but then it started to rain! So, I made my way back to the renfe train and went back to Madrid, my legs sadly aching from walking.
Here are some more highlights from my little excursion to Alcalá de Henares:
